Two weeks ago, my twin brother and his two kids, ages 4 and 2, came to stay with us in Breckenridge. About an hour into their visit, the four-year-old, named Kinley, said: “Uncle Devon, can you take us to the forest?” Nothing could have pleased me more. She and her little brother, Keegan, were mesmerized. They ran through the aspen and spruce like giddy explorers, discovering an entirely new world. (Kinley is pictured here.) After an hour of hiking, we returned home to eat peaches and take naps. When they woke up, all Keegan could say was, “Forest? Forest!” Both of them keep asking when they can go back.
