‘The Body Snatcher’ could have, and probably should’ve, opted to have taken an easier fight to grease the wheels before a potential clash with Wilder.
Taking the easy route, however, isn’t in the Brixton resident’s DNA, an aspect of his personality which has further endeared him to former cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson.
“Dillian Whyte has chosen him, has chosen him, it wasn’t pushed and it wasn’t forced, as his fight before he gets a crack at the world title,” Nelson told Express Sport. “I said to Dillian, ‘My old trainer, Brendan Ingle, he was crafty and he was smart. There’s no way in a million years that he would’ve let me box Oscar Rivas if I was in touching distance of a world title’.
“He would’ve let me box him, but only once I was champion. But he would say, ‘It’s a big risk fighting this guy now because you’ve got to look at the bigger picture’.
